MUTUAL BENEFITS WAS NOT JUST FILLED WITH CROOKS. THERE WERE MANY HONEST PEOPLE WHO WERE UNDER THE IMPRESSION THEY WERE MAKING AN HONEST LIVING. ME BEING ONE OF THEM. WE ALL APPLIED FOR OUR POSITIONS THE SAME WAY ONE WOULD APPLY FOR ANY OTHER JOB. I DEDICATED MANY YEARS TO THIS COMPANY WHICH AT THE TIME I BELIEVED WAS A GREAT COMPANY. WE HAD GREAT BENEFITS, 401K PLAN, INSURANCE, THE SAME BENEFITS ONE WOULD EXPECT FROM A LEGITIMATE BUSINESS. IF I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW, I WOULD HAVE FOUND ANOTHER JOB. BUT I DIDN’T, SO I STAYED AND CONTINUED TO BE A DEDICATED EMPLOYEE.
Am I ignorant, or naive? Gullible, or just plain stupid? Call it what you want, but don’t call me a criminal for being associated with the company. I was living check to check trying to make ends meet like a lot of other people within the company. I can say about 50 percent of the employees that worked there didn’t know what was going on. Do you think the company would have lasted that long, a decade, if they did? Obviously not. One thing Mutual Benefits did well is keep secrets. There was a legal department that was ran by Bari Wiggins, who is currently serving a jail sentence. She was a ball buster. In my eyes she was the one that made sure all business, and all contracts were initiated legally. When I found out she got convicted I was very confused. I seen this woman tell so many salesmen “ you can’t do that!” A few of the salesmen didn’t like her because she was the one that was going to tell them what they can and can’t do. And none of these salesmen like being told what to do. They were the ones making a lot of money. They were the ones living the fast life, and driving the luxury cars.

If you worked there for seven years you knew what was going on. I only worked there for two and had it figured out. Yes, there was alot of good that came from Mutual Benefits. I met one of my best friends of all times, his name was Marc Baker and he lost his life to AIDS. I was married to Rockey and if you think so much of him you don't really know him, he was a wonderful man when we first met, then the money took over, the man who refused to go to a topless bar at his bachlor party ended up spending almost 200,000 at one 3 years later.
ReplyDeleteI also worked at Mutual Benefits and find it hard to believe you didn't know what was going on. There were alot of good things that came from the company. I met my best friend Marc Baker who we lost to AIDS in 97 and I met and married the love of my life. Bari and Carol knew what they were doing as did the sales people and front office employees.

ReplyDeleteWhat department did you work in? I also worked there and was married to one of the employess who is now serving a prison sentence. I seen many wrong doings in my two years there, but, there were wonderful things Mutual Benefits did also. I helped with the Silent Auction and the AIDS Awards that were held in 97. I also helped set up the Medical Center. There were dying people receiving counseling and medical help. Let us remember to look at the whole picture. Yes, the figure heads made millions, but to me just making one dying person smile was worth it. And no, I did not make alot of money there, I was a single mom raising two girls. And yes, my ex-husband did make alot of money, but when I left him I left with what I had when I married him, I never signed a pre-nuptial, but wanted no blood money.
